The origin of Halloween

2.Jack-o-Lantern
Jack-o-Lantern origin
The Jack-o-lantern custom probably comes from Irish folk. A man named Jack， he was notorious because he likes drinking and tricking. One day he tricked Satan into climbing a tree， then he carved a cross on the trunk， not to let the devil down the tree. Then Jack made a deal with the devil， if he would never tempt him again， he would promise the devil down the tree.

After Jack died， he wasn’t let to go into Heaven because of his evil ways， but he was also denied going into Hell because he had tricked the devil. But the devil gave him a single ember to light his way in the dark. The ember was placed inside a hollowed-out turnip to keep it glowing longer. Jack was still walking with the lantern looking for a place to stay.
The first step
Cut a melon in the pumpkin's top / bottom surface with a knife in order to reach out and emptied the flesh.
The second step
Pull out seeds and flesh with a special spoon . Selected where you are ready for carving， scraping the piece of rind to one inch thick.

The fourth step
