Mother’s Day first appeared in ancient Greece， and it was the annual （每年的）January 8th ， while in the United States， Canada and other countries ， it is the second Sunday in May every year. A number of other countries’ dates were also the same. On this day mothers often receive gifts. China :the second Sunday in May. Japan :the third Sunday of October each year. Canada :the second Sunday of May each year. France :29th May each year. India :5th April each year. Gifts Cards Today， millions of Americans observe Mother's Day in some way. They buy more than one- hundred- fifty million Mother's Day greeting cards. Most of the cards show pictures of flowers or hearts or other things that people feel are linked to being a mother. They have messages that express a person's love and thanks for his or her mother. Some are humorous， and some have no words -- people can express their own feelings for their mother. Flowers Many people give flowers for Mother's Day. It is one of the busiest days of the year for the flower industry. Even Americans who live far away from their mothers can send flowers. They order and pay for the flowers at a local flower store. The local store places a telephone call or sends a fax message to a flower store in a faraway city. And that store carries the flowers to the person's mother in that city. Carnation It stands for a healthy， great， holy（神圣的）， loving mother. The red one :May mothers be healthy . The pink one: May mothers be young forever. Hemerocallis Flower 忘忧草 Hemerocallis Flower is also called Wang Youcao. On Mother’s Day， children present their mothers Wang Youcao， hoping that mothers will be away from sorrow and be happy everyday and hope that they will have a long and healthy life.
