ONE DAY， a human child girl named Hotaru was lost in the forest and ended up being rescued by a youkai（妖怪） with human form， Gin.
Gin is not able to touch any human， otherwise he will disappear.
Always together every summer， Gin and Hotaru walk on the woods and explore new places， meet other youkai， have fun in fields of flowers， rivers， go fishing. An endless peaceful feeling surround our protagonists(主角) while they talk， play or even sleep.
Still， he helps and befriends Hotaru， the human girl who was never afraid of him.
Little Hotaro grew up，and the strong curiosity developed into a strong friendship， that later grew into something deeper.
Years passed，Hotaru became a high school student， while Gin will never get old. They loved each other， and Gin can’t stand missing Hotaru and waiting for summers to meet her anymore.
A summer night， Gin invited Hotaru to attend a celebration party(夏日祭) for the ghost. They had a wonderful time.
However，
Gin touched a boy who would have fallen down. And， he was a human.

Forbidden love， playful love， intense（强烈的 ） love， a love that is not love. With all of these takes on love， can we really be sure of what love is? Simply put， love is a universal... well， for lack of a better word， thing.
The lack of characters allows you experience the life of Hotaru as she lives and feels throughout the movie. We do not feel these emotions and experiences from our seat; rather it feels as if we are actually spectating from within. Yet， it’s those little， meaningless actions and experiences we come to love and appreciate.
As much as Hotaru wishes for the seasons to change， we also wish for it to change. Her impatience rubs off on（感染） us as if it was only natural. As much as the pacing was deliberately slow， you wish for it to never end. At this point， the world which Gin and Hotaru live in becomes our escape from reality. Their romantic development has not only touched our heart but our soul so much that we wished for a miracle near the end… a miracle we knew that was never going to come true.
