Chihiro and her family are on their way to their new house in the suburbs ['sʌbə:b] .郊区when her father decides to take a shortcut[＇ʃɔ:tkʌt] along a lonely-looking dirt road. After getting out of the car and walking along a path [pɑ:θ]小路， 小径 for a while， they discover an open-air restaurant filled with food but with no workers or customers present. Mom and Dad don't hesitate to sit down and dig [diɡ]欣赏 in， but Chihiro senses danger and refuses. As night falls， she is terrified to see the area fill with faceless spirits， but when she runs to find her parents， she discovers that they have been turned into pigs.
She is found by a mysterious [mi'stiəriəs]神秘的 boy named Haku， who promises to help her. He gets her a job working in a nearby building， which turns out to be a bathhouse for the thousands of Japan's gods and spirits. Though the work is hard and the people strange， she does as well as she can. Her parents， however， are still waiting in the hotel's stockyard ['stɔkjɑ:d]牲畜栏 ， and Chihiro must find a way to break the spell on them before they end up as the main course of some guest's [ɡest]客人 dinner.
No-Face: Try this. It‘s delicious. Want some gold[ɡəuld]金 ? I'm not giving it to anybody else! No-Face: Come closer， Sen. What would you like? Just name it. Chihiro: I would like to leave， sir; there's some place I need to go to right away， please. You should go back to where you came from. Your mother doesn't want you in the bath house any longer. Where is your home? Don't you have any friends or family? No-Face: No... no... I'm lonely... I'm lonely.
Chihiro: What is it that you want? No-Face: I want Sen... I want Sen... No-Face: Take the gold! Take it! Chihiro: Are you going to eat me? No-Face: Take it! No-Face: Huh? Ow. Chihiro: If you want to eat me， eat this first. I was going to save it for my parents， but I think you'd better have it.
Zeniba: I'm sorry my sister turned you parents into pigs， but there's nothing I can do. Its just the way things are. You'll have to help your parents and Haku by yourself. Use what you remember about them. Chihiro: What? Can't you please give me more help than that? It feels like I met Haku， but it was a long time ago... Zeniba: That's a good start! Once you've met someone you never really forget them. It just takes a while for your memories to return.
